Step 1 Have Something To Sell - Home-Based Business In A Box

by radiantrose on May 20, 2012

This can be one of the most exciting parts of creating your own business. If you have something unusual that you want to sell like a book of paper airplanes for example, you will need to reach a wider audience, but we will talk about that in a future post in Step 3, about telling people that you have something they need.

Step 1 can be broken down into the following:

1. Decide if you want to carry physical inventory of a product
2. Find out what is popular and selling on the internet based on your interests
3. Make a list of products you could sell based on the above list
4. Make a plan of how you want to roll out your business (Don?t worry, it?s easy.)

We?ve all heard the horror stories of people who have boxes of that famous something stashed in their basement because it didn?t sell. That is always a worry, but you can buy or make products to sell if you do it right. On the other hand, you can use what is called a drop shipper where they do all the shipping for you from an online store or you can sell electronic products like e-books where you have no physical products whatsoever. It all depends on your financial situation and how much time you have to spend on your home based business. A really good example of an awesome store to set up is one through Amazon. They have hundreds of thousands of products you can sell with NO inventory or shipping headaches. You are just the mouth that tells everyone in various ways that you have really cool stuff to sell.

There are a number of ways you can find out what is popular and a number of places to look. Where you look is based on what your interests are. For example, if you are an electronic, automotive or IT fan, you can look on ebay. Go to Seller Central on Ebay to find what is trending up now. If you like jewelry and homemade articles of every genre, then check out this link to the Etsy website. If you are an artist, you can check out this link to the Cafe Press website and this link to the Iyashi website

You can sell freshly baked cakes, grass fed beef, ipads, you name it and you don?t even need to lift a finger to bake the cakes or make the ipads. Use your imagination and have fun with it. If you?re stuck, look up affiliate programs like Linkshare or share-a-sale. Clickbank is another good one for e-books. Once you?ve done some research, you?ll be ready for step 2.
