Report: Galaxy Tab 3 initially coming in 10.1-inch version, Galaxy Note 8.0 LTE planned
We've learned much about the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 over the past week, and now we're seeing further indications of what plans Samsung might have for its Galaxy Tab line. Samsung fansite SamMobile, which broke some of the Note 8.0 news a few days ago, now says that Samsung plans to launch new Galaxy Tabs this year, but only 10.1-inch versions are on the cards at the moment. The "Tab 3 7.0," it reports, has been mothballed in favor of the stylus-toting Galaxy Note 8.0. Depending on sales of the Note 8.0, SamMobile's source says, an 8.0-inch Tab 3 may be offered at some point in the future.

Hotel Transylvania Blu-ray + DVD Review
Kidzworld checks out the monster animated comedy Hotel Transylvania. Should you take it home?

Count Dracula as a doting dad? Yep, to a ?teen? daughter Mavis who is 118 and more than ready to leave their home; a vacation hotel for monsters!
Story Goes: After his wife died, Count Dracula (voice of Adam Sandler) built Hotel Transylvania, a resort for monsters where they can escape persecution by evil humans. Problem is daughter Mavis (voice of Selena Gomez) is turning 18 (well 118) and feels more trapped than safe. She dreams of exotic lands and people her age.
At Mavis?s big birthday bash where everyone from Frankenstein to the Wolf Man has gathered, a hapless young hiking human named Johnny (voice of Andy Samberg) stumbles in and it?s love at first sight for him and Mavis. Disguised as Frankenstein?s cousin, Johnny impresses the whole gang with music and fun. Drac is determined to get rid of the lad before Mavis runs away with him.?
Special Features: Goodnight Mr. Foot is a cute animated short film featuring Bigfoot?s attempt to get some rest as a hotel guest while a bumbling witch/housekeeper keeps accidentally waking him. Quite fun but very short.
Deleted Scenes are presented in both semi-finished animation and storyboards. One series deals with how Dracula met and courted Mavis?s mom Martha. This is very sweet and must have been cut for time. Another deleted scene is a fun rap called ?Vampire Girls? that is worth a listen and maybe a dance.
In Meet the Staff and Guests: Voicing Hotel Transylvania, we get to see all the major voice actors recording their voices and this is always fun. The producer talks about what certain actors brought to each character. We learn that Adam brought his kids into the booth with him for inspiration and that Selena recorded for hours without a break. It?s great to see this excellent voice cast at work!
Making the Hotel focuses on developing the story and putting the project together. Interesting.
Progression Reels cover every aspect of doing the animation for the movie. In voice-over, an animator takes you through hand drawn vs. 3D computer animation, using ?motion blur? to indicate fast movements and other cool ?tricks?. You learn about lighting and painting the backgrounds and that a team of animators were sent to the actual Transylvania to get the ?look? of the movie right. A very comprehensive ?making-of? featurette.
Music Video ? ?Problem (Monster Remix)? features Becky G. and guests Will.i.am. This is really catchy and fun to dance to.
Filmmakers? Commentary is the Director, Producer and Visual Effects Supervisor talking about making the film both funny and scary and balancing the two. Lots of tech info and tidbits on the film?s look.? More techy for older kids and teens.
Wrapping Up:? Hotel Transylvania is a cute, if ?nothing new? film. It?s predictable and maybe too ?silly? at times but still fun enough and worth collecting. The extras on this Blu-ray/DVD set cover just about everything from the ?look? of the movie to the actors voicing the roles. Alone, the movie would get 3 stars but with the extras on this set, we?ll go 4.

Of Course Apple Is No Longer the World's Most Valuable Company
Apple's terrible, horrible, no good, historically bad day?on the markets Thursday has spilled over into Friday, with Apple ceding back to Exxon Mobil the title of the most valuable company in the world. On the second day following Apple's latest earnings report, which led to a massive stock drop-off, the divide arrived again: As of midday, Apple's market cap had faded to $414.49 billion, while Exxon's stood strong at $417.18 billion. Apple had overtaken the oil giant for the title of earth's most valuable company last August and maintained it until late Friday morning.

The title, of course, is all relative, but you could see it coming after a week that left many talking about the end of an Apple bubble. Apple is stilling selling lots of things and growing in new markets, but Wall Street mostly cared about the company's change in earnings guidance. So Apple now plans to surface more realistic expectations for its quarterly reports, rather than underplaying its expected revenues only to later blow them away. This may or may not be the beginning of the end of Apple's top spot in worldwide worth ? Exxon is booming again ? but it's still the biggest-ever company in America. But Microsoft, once the most valuable company of all time, is still doing pretty well, with a $233.66 billion market cap.

PHOENIX (AP) ? Arizona has traded outfielder Justin Upton to the Atlanta Braves in a seven-player deal that sends former All-Star infielder Martin Prado to the Diamondbacks.
The Braves also get third baseman Chris Johnson. Atlanta is giving up four minor leaguers in the deal, including top pitching prospect Randy Delgado. The other minor leaguers headed to Arizona are right-hander Zeke Spruill, shortstop Nick Ahmed and first baseman Brandon Drury. Prado, projected to play third base for the Diamondbacks, can become a free agent after this season.
Upton, who has five-plus major league seasons but still is just 25 years old, will join older brother B.J. Upton, who recently signed a free agent contract with Atlanta. The younger Upton, who has three years and $38.5 million left on his contract, had been the subject of trade speculation throughout the offseason and vetoed a trade to the Seattle Mariners.
Prado made the All-Star team in 2010 as a second baseman and played mostly in left field last season. A versatile infielder, Prado was projected to move to third base for the Braves this season to replace the retired Chipper Jones.
Arizona had accumulated a glut of outfielders, signing Cody Ross as a free agent last month. Upton was the most marketable.
Upton, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 draft, raced through the minors and came up to the big league club in August 2007 at age 19. He made the NL All-Star team in 2009 and 2011.
Upton has played five full major league seasons, so his best years could well be ahead of him. Last season, he hit .280 with 17 home runs and 67 RBIs but did score a career-high 107 runs. In 2011, while helping Arizona to its surprising NL West crown, Upton hit .289, with 31 home runs and 88 RBIs ? the latter two categories are career bests ? and finished fourth in NL MVP voting. Overall, he's a career .278 hitter with 108 home runs, 739 hits, 147 doubles and 80 stolen bases.
Delgado, a 23-year-old right-hander, had been expected to challenge for a spot in the Braves rotation. His acquisition bolsters the young pitching depth in Arizona depleted by the trade of Trevor Bauer. Delgado was 4-9 with a 4.37 ERA in 18 appearances, 17 as a starter, for the Braves. Rated Atlanta's No. 3 prospect by Baseball America the past two years, he was 4-3 with a 4.06 ERA with Triple-A Gwinett last season.
The trade leaves Arizona with three veteran outfielders ? Ross, Jason Kubel and Gerardo Parra ? along with two youngsters the team feels are ready for the majors ? Adam Eaton and A.J. Pollock. General manager Kevin Towers has praised Eaton's potential as a center fielder and leadoff hitter.

Ingrid Brewer, 50, is accused of tying up and beating her two adopted children ? an 8-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl ? in this west Palmdale home in the 39000 Block of Clear View Court.
PALMDALE ? A 50-year-old Palmdale woman is facing eight felony counts, after her two adopted children told detectives they were deprived of food, tied up and beaten with electrical cords and a hammer, authorities said.
Ingrid Brewer is charged with two counts of torture, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of felony battery and two counts of cruelty to a child, according to Sgt. Brian Hudson of the Sheriff?s Department?s Special Victims Bureau.
?Even our most veteran child abuse detectives were appalled at what we came across in this incident,? Hudson said Wednesday. ?These two kids are heroes because they showed a heck of a lot of courage to take it upon themselves to get out of a bad situation on their own.?
The alleged torture came to light last week, when Brewer reported her 8-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl missing from their west Palmdale home, Hudson said.
Brewer reported the children missing around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, and the Palmdale Station launched a ?critical missing operation? due to the children?s ages, Hudson said.
About three hours later, deputies found the two children a few blocks away from their home.
?They were huddled under a blanket near a parked car and it was quite cold that morning,? Hudson said, adding that neither child had any type of winter clothing on, despite temperatures in the mid-20s.
?Once we found the children, we discovered that they ran away to escape the environment they had been placed in by their mother,? Hudson continued.
Brewer told detectives her two adopted children were punished because they were ?stealing food,? authorities said.
The children told detectives that, on numerous occasions, Brewer would tie their hands behind their backs and beat them as punishment, Hudson said.
?Those children disclosed being hit with electrical cords and a hammer at one point over the course of the last several months,? Hudson said, adding that both children had numerous marks and bruises on them when found.
?Injuries on their bodies that were consistent with the abuse that they had disclosed, including marks that indicated that their wrists had been restrained with a zip-tie type restraint,? Hudson said.
The children also reported being locked in their bedrooms for up to 14 hours at a time, while Brewer went to work each day as a certified nursing assistant in Los Angeles, Hudson said.
?The doors were padlocked from the outside so they could not come out of the rooms,? Hudson said. ?The children were locked in separate rooms and were forced to use their trash cans as toilets.?
Shortly after the children were found, detectives arrested Brewer at her home in the 39000 Block of Clear View Court in Palmdale.
Neighbors said Wednesday that Brewer had been living at the address since about March of 2012.
?She never really spoke to anyone and she kept to herself,? Cynthia Otero said, adding that she didn?t even realize Brewer had kids until recently.
Otero said she wished the two youngsters had given her some type of clue to alert her of their predicament, and she expressed remorse that the abuse was happening just across the street from her home.
?We spoke to all of the neighbors and none of them reported ever seeing any type of suspicious activity. The sheriff?s department had no previous calls for service at the location,? Hudson said.
Brewer told detectives her adopted children were punished because they were ?stealing food,? Hudson said, but declined to elaborate further.
Hudson said the children were homeschooled and had been adopted out of the foster care system about a year ago. The youngsters said the torture began in October of last year.
?Since Halloween of 2012, that?s when they first remembered being locked in their rooms and not being allowed to come out while their mom was at work,? Hudson said.
The children have been in protective custody since they were found, Hudson said. Brewer pleaded not guilty to eight felony counts on Friday, Jan. 18, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney?s Office. She remains jailed on $2 million bail and is due back in court on Thursday, Jan. 31, for a scheduled preliminary hearing.
