Cheezburger Creator Launches SimpleHoney To Find Hotels You?ll Love

simplehoney logoPeople deal with the pain of online hotel search is different ways. For many, it means spending hours and hours of research spread across dozens of browsers tabs. In my case, I usually throw up your hands and say, "Screw it, I give up, I'm just going to pick an affordable hotel that doesn't look completely terrible." Either way, there's something broken here ? the fact that without being there, it's hard to tell what a hotel is really like. That's the problem that a startup called SimpleHoney wants to solve. It was co-founded by Eric Nakagawa, a software developer who created the famous Icanhascheezburger blog, and Joyce Kim, a former corporate attorney who was previously CEO of Korean pop music site Soompi.com and is probably best-known to the startup community as co-host of the GigaOm Show. The company has raised a seed round from Socialcast and About.me co-founder Tim Young, Mochi Media co-founders Jameson Hsu and Bob Ippolito, former Middleware Company CEO Ed Roman, Causecast founder Ryan Scott, and 500 Startups' Dave McClure. Nakagawa (who's CTO) and Kim (who's CEO) also invested.

Is There a Market For Chocolate Half and Half?

Is there a market for chocolate half and half? A coworker of mine believes it?s a huge money maker.?

The ?Big Guy,? the coworker, constantly brainstorms for million dollar food ideas. He knows that deep inside he holds the idea for the next big food money maker. His unmovable faith in ?chocolate half and half? led him to survey the customers at Spadafora?s Seafood Market this past summer.

His love for half and half(loves it so much he drinks it alone) sparked this ingenious idea. But there may be a few issues with such brilliance.

The fat content per tablespoon of half and half is very high. A more health conscious American society may overlook such a minor fact if chocolate is added to the drink. Chocolate makes everything better and most eaters show a double standard when chocolate enters the picture.

Half and half is commonly added to coffee. At first skeptics may shoot down the chocolate addition, but soon they?ll realize that since chocolate does makes everything better, the taste of coffee will improve substantially with the innovation.?

Chocolate half and half has enormous upside and potential. I was completely astounded when customers, mainly women, laughed and?weren't?quick to approve of such unparalleled brilliance. There will always be naysayers, but for the big thinkers like Big Guy, perseverance wins out in the end.

Do you think there?s a market for chocolate half and half?

It's inspired artwork, sketch shows and even a Pomplamoose cover, but flinging feathery fowl is ultimately a serious business. Rovio has announced that in 2011, it made a huge $106.3 million turnover and a whopping $67.6 million in profit (before tax). Fueled by the success of Angry Birds, Seasons and Rio, the company grew by a factor of eight in the last year, from 28 employees all the way to 224. The company adds that the three games were downloaded 648 million times and are now used by 200 million daily users, while sales of merchandise contributed to around 30 percent of the total revenue. The report adds that the only barrier to future profits is if people stop buying new smartphones, but we're not sure that's likely to be the case for a while.
